Our October meeting was held in Tony Rea's workshop. It was a terrible night of wind and rain so only about half the members were present.
After reading the minutes of the last meeting Norah gave a report to the chapter about the annual seminar in Sligo and gave out certificates to all the members present that had been involved in making the rocking chair.
We were very pleased to hear that one of Tony's bowls had been purchased to join the Daniel collection. Tony is now the second member of the Chapter to have a piece selected for the Daniel Collection, Richard Shannon our youngest member also has a piece in the collection
We were also pleased that Ricky and Una Cole had won a prize in the raffle of a weekend for two in the Radisson Blu hotel in Sligo.
Eddie Gorman then began to turn a large oak burr bowl. Tony pointed out the advantage of using a three prong drive which allows for repositioning the blank so as to get the two high points and the two low points of the rim directly opposite each other.
The bowl was skillfully turned by Eddie with a very little help from friends! It was then decorated by scorching the outside and rim and then sanding down and treated with oil.
Jim Coburn took it home to complete the oiling process.
We then enjoyed our usual excellent supper provided by Lorraine.
